Judgement (or the lack thereof):
Judgement has been a large topic in this campaign cycle and it rears it's head again in John McCain's VP pick Sarah Palin.
Sarah Palin: Vetted with a fine tooth comb? I don't think so...
First, I want to start out saying that I do not think Sarah Palin is a bad person. I think she should be commended for the rise to power that she's orchestrated and she is a testament on how far we've come with allowing women to be in Government.
John McCain picked Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential nominee. He used his judgement when he picked her. He thought about this pick for Days, Weeks, maybe even months (at least we hope he did, right?). He vetted each nominee with a fine tooth comb. He weighed all of the pros, cons for each person on his "short list." Then he picked Sarah Palin?
John McCain only met Sarah Palin ONCE in person before picking her as his choice for Vice President! ONCE!? He vetted her with a fine tooth comb? I don't think so. Let me say some more on this because I want it hammered into every one's brains. John McCain met Sarah Palin ONCE before choosing her as his Vice President.
Wait a second... That's like me meeting someone for the first time, spending the day with them and then letting them watch my children for a week while I go away on vacation. All that after only having met the person one time. Would anyone in their right mind do that? Not a chance!!! Was Sarah Palin vetted with a fine tooth comb? I DON'T THINK SO.
But wait... then we found out that Sarah's teenage daughter was pregnant roughly 1 day after John McCain himself found out. Vetted with a fine tooth comb? I don't think so. That's right people, Sarah Palin's teenage daughter is pregnant. Does that show good judgement? Does that show that Sarah Palin is the type of parent that teaches her children good judgement? My personal opinion is NO. This re-enforces the idea that Sarah Palin was nothing but a Hail Mary pass that John McCain decided to throw in hopes his receivers (the American public) would catch it for him. I'm not catching that pass.
Sarah Palin: Under Investigation, good judgement? I don't think so...
Oh no...there's more? Sarah Palin is under investigation. That's right folks, John McCain picked a former beauty queen runner-up for VP that is also under investigation with her own state. You see, Mrs. Palin tried to use her position to have someone fired. Well wait...let's give her the benefit of the doubt on what she says. Let's just say that "one of her staffers" tried to have someone fired for not firing a State Trooper that was married to Palin's sister. So would you say that the "staffers" used proper Judgement?
Of course not!
So what does that mean? Well, let's see...if you're the boss and someone under you screws up, ultimately it's your fault for not guiding them properly. You see, Palin's boss is the entire state of Alaska (the one investigating her). In this case, her "staffers" (I still think Sarah Palin ordered this herself) screwed up and used POOR JUDGEMENT. However, that judgement was handed down through Sarah Palin (she picks her staff). It should be noted that apparently Sarah Palin used POOR JUDGEMENT in picking out her staff. This assumes that what she says is true...and that her staff were the ones trying to have people fired...not her.
Conclusion: Sarah Palin...BAD JUDGEMENT.
My final thought on this is clear. John McCain used bad judgement in picking Sarah Palin. Sarah Palin did not teach her daughter good judgement. Sarah Palin did not use good judgement when picking out her staff. Sarah Palin's staff did not use good judgement when trying to use the Governer's office to have people fired.
The crap trickles up people... and it trickles up to the top of the ticket.
I'll end with something funny:

Redwing, I'm dissapointed with your post. I was expecting to hear how she was unpatriotic or not proud of her country. Maybe even that she had misused government money to fund personal travel on Pelosi Air. Maybe she attended a church that spews racial and anti-american hatred. No, all you came up with is a pregnant daughter who's not going to kill her baby and "troopergate". By the way, the brother-in-law reportedly made a death threat against his father-in-law. Sounds to me like he was one of Alaska's finest.
"Maybe even that she had misused government money to fund personal travel on Pelosi Air. Maybe she attended a church that spews racial and anti-american hatred."
That's all coming. Meanwhile chew on the fact that as mayor of Wasila, she received 8 million in earmarks, that she was for the "bridge to nowhere" before she was against it, and when she decided "thanks but no thanks," she didn't return the money to Congress. In fact, she is still building the "raod to nowhere" because according to state officials, "the money would otherwise have to be returned to the federal government." Sounds like a real reformer to me.
Stay tuned for the ties to Ted Stevens and illegal fundraising.
I'll sign off with another funny: according to Bloomberg.com, bookies in England and Ireland have reduced the odds of her dropping out of the race from 20-1 to 8-1. Do they know something we don't?
Judgement is right... I find it hilarious that they chose Fred Thompson to give a speech last night. But even more so to put Lieberman in the main spot considering what a boring speaker he is. Palin? Well the jury is out on her...but I give Mr. Obama much better 'vegas odds' than I did before.
8 Million. That's it? As a freshman senator, Barak is already responsible for 53 earmarks totalling $97 Million.
antisocialism, I am dissapointed in your party's VP pick.
The sarcasm of the first part of your comment is lost...especially since Sarah Palin DID attend a church that spewed racial and other outrageous comments.
However, it's not that part that really intrigues me. It's the part where you say "No, all you came up with is a pregnant daughter who's not going to kill her baby and "troopergate." You see...that part confuses me... mainly because that's NOT all I came up with. If you would READ my post instead of just skimming through it to find what you don't like, you would have noticed that the theme of my post is POOR JUDGEMENT. The MAIN point of my post was that John McCain picked her after having met her ONLY ONCE. Funny how you neglected to mention that aspect (which I put in bold) of the post I made.
But see, that isn't even the FUNNIEST part. The funniest quote is, "By the way, the brother-in-law reportedly made a death threat against his father-in-law. Sounds to me like he was one of Alaska's finest." WOW. Just WOW. So you're actually EXCUSING the possibility that she used Government power for personal reasons because he's a BAD GUY? Nobody is arguing Sarah Palin's sister's Husband was a crappy guy. That does NOT excuse, however, trying to have him fired...and then trying to have the guy who tried to have him fired, fired for NOT firing him! Whew that takes something out of ya... haha
You say you want to debate policy yet all you do is throw out your own talking points. You can't refute what I'm saying so you just attack the general argument and DON'T include the main point!
I know it's tough on you because of the idiocy of the choice McCain made for Vice President. I know that it makes all of you conservative republicans upset that you are now forced to defend someone clearly not ready for that type of position. (Yes that's right, Sarah Palin is on VIDEO saying "What does the Vice President even do? Does anyone know?" I know it's tough... I know you are upset because in your mind, the end is near.
But it isn't. Once Obama is elected and things get better, you will see. Barack will go from an "Obamanation" to your favorite "Obamamama."
Booya!
Inspirational contains the letters P A L I N
Redwing, you don't have kids do you? I didn't think so. Sometimes they do things that regardless of their teachings and upbringing are not what the parent believes or wants. I am sure Palin was very upset with her daughter as I would be with mine. We cannot hold her to blame that her daughter did what she did. And to beat all of that think she isn't a good VP candidate because her daughter is pregnate??? Are you kidding me or are you an ignorant pompous jackass? Sounds like the latter to me.
Typical republican...can't deal with the issue at hand so you just go with the ad hominem attack towards the author.
My wife is pregnant with our first child so I will be a father soon (not that it matters). If, later in life, my teenage daughter gets pregnant and isn't married, I will consider it a failure on my part for not providing her with the proper judgement to use birth control or to abstain until marriage. Sure children will be children despite the parents upbringing...but again, the point of my post is ignored.
It's all about Judgement. I blame John McCain's judgement on his pick of Sarah Palin... I blame Sarah Palin's JUDGEMENT on the "abstinence ONLY" upbringing she gave her children. Lack of sexual education can be dangerous for a teenager and could have led to much worse conditions than pregnancy. It's crazy how I can know that without even being a dad yet, isn't it?
Poor judgement can lead to a disasterous chain of events that could affect the entire planet when you're a Vice President taking over because the reason for your title comes to fruition. I just won't be a part of putting someone in office with obvious poor judgement.
So bring on your idiotic ad hominem attacks and keep hiding behind your 'anonymous' status. It only proves my point further.
Hakuna Matata!
Redwing - You have the typical democrat attitude of no self-responsibility. It's always someone else's fault. I agree with anonymous. My parent's are some of the finest people to ever have walked the face of this earth. I'm not just saying that. I will never in a million years believe that anything I have ever done wrong is my parent's fault. Even at 17, I had a free will. I chose to do things wrong, yes, I was taught better than that, but I CHOSE to do the wrong thing.
As for McCain meeting with Palin - Who knows, maybe she made an excellent first impression and a follow up visit wasn't required. We also have these things called phones. There's also a high probability that someone else in the campaign met with her (you can't honestly think that Obama and McCain are in this alone). To say that she is unfit due to this is just absurd.
"Once Obama is elected and things get better, you will see." - Never in the history of mankind have the people benefitted from a socialistic type anything. Unfortunately for us all this country is headed for socialism, the difference between the candidates is Obama has the pedal to the metal and McCain is putting along. It should scare everyone in this country when a candidate blatently states "This is the moment when we must build on the wealth that open markets have created, and share its benefits more equitably.", and no one makes a fuss. Bye, Bye Capitalism, hello suffering.
"he MAIN point of my post was that John McCain picked her after having met her ONLY ONCE."
All I can think of is "beer goggles."

Hmm...well I'm glad you like your father...I like mine too...not sure what that has to do with this debate...but glad we got it out of the way that we both love our parents.
I'm not sure why, but you keep twisting my words to fit your argument. I never said that Palin's daughter was blaming her mom for her situation. I am simply blaming Palin's judgement to teach Abstinence ONLY policies in her household. They don't work. They have been proven not to work. She could have gotten AIDS instead of just getting pregnant. How would you feel then? I know that if it were MY daughter...I would blame myself for not teaching the proper use of condoms. Palin used POOR JUDGEMENT in her teachings of Abstinence only with her children.
You said:
"As for McCain meeting with Palin - Who knows, maybe she made an excellent first impression and a follow up visit wasn't required."
--end quote
"MAYBE?" You want to put the fate of the free world (only a heartbeat away) on a MAYBE??? I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't let someone you met ONCE watch your children...so I don't want someone McCain just met being only a heartbeat away from running the entire country. POOR JUDGEMENT. Plain and simple.
You said:
"Unfortunately for us all this country is headed for socialism, the difference between the candidates is Obama has the pedal to the metal and McCain is putting along."
--end quote
Well I'm glad that you think the difference between the candidates is that one is actually trying and the other is just "putting along." What I don't understand is how you think the election of Obama is going to lead to socialism. I think your ideas on socialism are very black and white. Just like your ideas on Capitalism are very black and white. While this isn't even remotely close to the topic we're discussing, I think you should still keep in mind that what I personally want, and what I think most Democrats want is a balance between Capitalism and Socialism. Neither government in it's truest form will work. A hybrid will be successful. A hybrid is what we have now. It just needs some tweaking.
Let's not forget that Bill Clinton (a Democrat) passed the largest and greatest reform on welfare. He said "NO!" to extreme socialism and even fixed problems before they even started. Barack Obama wants to reform Welfare EVEN MORE. He wants the government handouts to be FEWER. He wants the American poor to get educated, get back to work and to stop relying on the government to live. That is not socialism. That is progress.
No, her decision to teach abstinence was not bad judgement. If you were my parent, this is what I would hear from you. "Son, you should wait until you are more mature, but since I know you won't, here's how you protect yourself." That's like saying, "you shouldn't rob the liquor store, but since I know you will, here's how to do it and not get caught." All I'm saying is that Bristol knew exactly what she was doing and what the consequences might be. To say that Palin is unfit due to her daughter's choices is absurd.
Now back to the Obama quote, "This is the moment when we must build on the wealth that open markets have created, and share its benefits more equitably." So are you saying that you agree with Obama on his belief in "wealth redistribution". Do you believe that this ideology will cause beneficial progression?
antisocialism,
We can agree to disagree on the "Abstinence ONLY" portion of Sarah Palin's judgement. While I see your point, I do not agree with it. Had I not been taught how to use a condom I would VERY likely have aleady had a child by now. I believe this is the case for millions of children across the nation who were not only taught abstinence but also how to protect yourself when/if the urge hits. I think an educated roll in the hay is MUCH more beneficial to society than an ignorant roll in the hay. Ignorance breeds AIDS amongst other Sexually Transmitted Diseases.
What if Palin's daughter wasn't pregnant? What if, instead, she had contracted AIDS? What if her not forcing her partner to use a condom had caused that? What would you say then? Heaven forbid any child under 18 has to go through that. The only way to stop it is to STOP abstinence ONLY education. PERIOD.
Now to Obama's statement.
I think you are reading too much into what he is saying with that statement. I think you are so quick to jump on the "antisocialism" bandwagon (no pun intended) that you will categorize a single quote to become your mantra on why you dislike Obama. Obama is NOT trying to turn America into a Socialistic country...no matter HOW many times you say it, it won't be so. Wealth distribution is already going on in this country. It has been for MANY MANY years. It was forced and if it wasn't for automatic payroll taxes would likely not be the way it is. However, it is. It is and it's WORKED. The country makes more money without having to skin the poor. If you do the math you will see that the distribution that is happening is FAIR and a good BALANCED way of running the country.
Do you really think America would have so many millionaires if the taxes were REALLY hurting everyone? Every year we make more millionaires than ALL OTHER COUNTRIES COMBINED. How is it that the current wealth distribution is affecting this? IT ISN'T.
Let's not forget that Obama was in Germany when he made that statement. I believe he was speaking to the WORLD with the statement. That the richer countries should help out the poorer countries. I believe in this wholeheartedly.
We need a hybrid. We have a hybrid. Obama will keep the hybrid of Capitalism & Socialism that makes our country great. Having it one way or the other would be devastating. I believe John McCain wants it ONE WAY... and Obama wants a hybrid of both.
Obama '08
I am pissed! For the first time in my history of voting, I am not voting for a President. None of the candidates comes close to making me feel comfortable as being our Head of State. Hilary was the only one who had experience in Washington and should have been the other choice. I am pissed! McCain/Palin are a JOKE! Obama/Biden? I do not really feel a connection. Hilary? I know all of her baggage and I know that the Clinton years were the best years of my life! Despite all of the hoopla her hubby caused during those years, you cannot deny that we all made money and life was GREAT! I still believe Hilary should have been our choice and McCain putting Palin on his ticket hoping to woo us Hilary supporters is a JOKE! He could not even find a qualified Republican woman--what about Condaleeza Rice? McCain is a FOOL! I am not fooled and I will not vote for a Prez this year. Scared? YES! Russia, China, Venezuela, and North Korea are lying in bed together when it comes to their views of us U.S. citizens because of our IDIOT President Bush. He has led this country so far down the path of destruction that we do not even need to worry about terrorist. He has terrorized us to death. He has stuped our economy into the ground, FannieMae and FreddieMac are in deep doodoo, and the middle class has virtually disappeared. Bush is an IDIOT, a BOOB--need I say more. So for all you Republicans out there---get it through your skulls--McCain is a Bush clone in disquise! You are being brain washed! WAKE UP AMERICA!
I wish we could tell when a comment gets posted or sort by the latest as I hardly view these older ones, but this is the appropriate place to put this, so.. Here is a different perspective on the opposite of Palin from the UK.
