Vacation time! Not for Sarah though.

Vacation is near but not for Sarah Palin, I fear.

I leave you with this final thought,
They want me to be quiet but instead I fought,
She says Why does everybody keep pickin' on me,
But how would she react to the governments overseas?

Nobody knows, but everyone cares
Should we just trust her or perhaps be scared?
No interviews, no talk shows but plenty of fuss,
According to her the Media has thrown her under the bus.

If that were true then the bus moves ahead
To every single person the media did spread
Because all politicians come under the same light
But the conservative media must not be too bright.

They keep saying "The media is unfair!"
Yet the media is reacting with its NORMAL flair
Because all politicians are scrutinized the same.
The republicans just want someone to blame.

You can take a chance and vote based on fate.
Not me my friends...I'm with Obama O'Eight.

I'm off on vacation everyone! Have a great week!

Well of course she can't give interviews on talk shows. They won't have her. Didn't you hear Oprah??? One thing though, please keep on posting any video of Palin :)

Of course she's not on vacation and won't be for the next four years- she's going to be VP. Polls say she's more popular than all the candidates- with good reason. Polls also state an overwhelming majority of people believe the media is biased against her (Rasmussen)- yeah, no kidding. The Republican ticket is leading in the polls even without her appearing on the Sunday morning shows, why bother yet? Smart political move. All the while Obama is out in public with no telepromter (at least give him some note cards- oh wait, yes, he knows- "four more years of the same, McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time") YAWN. Of course the President doesn't vote, but I digress. He's out in public IMPLODING and concentrating on throwing barbs at a VP instead of promoting his socialist agenda which was working for him for a time. So, Sarah and McCain work the battleground states and so far, people can't get enough of her- like her or not. (LIKE)
So, regardless of where you stand, this is shaping up to be a very interesting election. Certainly more exciting than I've seen in my lifetime. That being said, Redwing states this is HIS blog, therefore I'm signing off.

Well I have read all the commets in this blog and am glad to see all the diverse opinions. I feel that as a country we need to try to listen and understand the other side of all issues. This can only help us all in the USA find a happy medium for all the people here. I find it hard to beleive that we as a country have not learned that in order to keep capitalizism (free market) alive we must make sure that all earn there fair share economically. Until we relize this the USA is doomed to fail. I also find it hard to understand why people tend to lean toward their own understanding. We need each other regardless of color, partyline, religious beliefs, pro life, pro choice, sex or economic status. We could all learn something from the poor as well as the rich. Economics 101 if the working man does not earn a sustainable wage then the producer as well as the investor and the like will not survive. This country need polies that are equal across the board and not divisive such as what we currently have. If the tax base continues to decline we no longer will have to worry about the have and the have nots, because we will all be in the same boat. This country has been side-tracked for far too long. We need to stay on the issues that effect how we sustain our daily life, and not who had an afair or the color of the indiviuals running for office, or how much money a dress cost, etc. We need to put aside all petty differences and come together in an effort to figure out who has the best polies that will empower America again. Media has chosen to distract the American people instead of choosing to educate them. I have a real proplem with that, because it affects us all. It effects the beliefs of many
americans and how they view the candidates running for office. Media is based on ratings so spin is there market (sad) not truth. It is also sad that we as a people don't respect each other enough to stay on the issues and be truthful giving the American people the best that it has to offer. We the people have experienced this long enough. When will we as the people wake up and see what we are doing to ourselves and take responsibility for the failed policies of America. Truth be told it is the people fault that this Country is in the miss that it is in and not just one man or woman but us all. THE PEOPLE.

Larry I've enjoyed reading all of your comments because you SEEM to not have picked a side yet. That is until now.

"Didn't you hear about Oprah???"

YOU'RE KIDDING RIGHT??? That is a TYPICAL REPUBLICAN TALKING POINT. PERIOD. SO I guess we all know what side you are on.

Oprah...in the HISTORY OF HER SHOW has never had a political candidate to use her show as a platform once they've announced their intention to run. Did she have Obama on twice? YES...was he running for president at the time? NO...he was coming on as a Senator of Illinois, which happens to be HER state. Does Oprah support Obama? YES...does that make her a reason for the Republicans to smear her? NO.

I think if your intent is to remain neutral, larry, then you should try not repeating republican talking points. Or at least add a few democrat talking points to balance it out. Of course, I could be wrong about what camp you're in as you may already be pro McCain...but from what I have read before it doesn't appear you are.

Sorry if it seems like I'm attacking you... I guess I'm just curious where you stand? I hope this is ON TOPIC as I don't want the wrath of RedWing on me!

To Monica...I won't comment on our entry as I don't want such an obviously angry woman angry with me.

Anonymous...an excellent comment and incredible point on the media's lack of educating us. I feel that Obama will work with both sides MUCH MORE than McCain will. Perhaps if this was the McCain from 2000 I would not have that point to make. However, he has been endorsed (and accepted it glowingly) by people he had disdain for in 2000, he's switched viewpoints on MANY MANY subjects that he was for or against in 2000 (see RedWing's YOUTUBE post) and his "straight talk" has turned to outright lies JUST TO PANDER. Why he is still claiming Palin sold that plane on ebay for a profit is beyond me!

Unfortunately, the problem with the media is that gossip and drama keeps viewers...why else would Faux News be the highest ranked 24/7 "news" organization? I'm a HUGE Faux News junkie...but I only watch to laugh at the OBVIOUS bias, not because I think their news has any real substance. My friends and i even have a drinking game... take a drink everytime someone says or it shows "Fair and Balanced." We call it the "Hypocritcally Fair and Hypocritcally Balanced" game. HAH!

One last note...RedWing can you force people to use a name and not post as anonymous? We've already seen some confusion and it is apparent that the anonymous on this blog post and the others are different.

Oops I forgot to suck up.

RedWing, good poem! I hope you'll do more like that in the future. I printed it off and handed it out at my office.

Also, did anyone see the Palin interview? WOW she was VERY uncomfortable with the Bush Doctrine question. Probably because she had NO CLUE what the Bush Doctrine is. Funny how I even know that and she had no clue and tried to bumble her way through it.

The bush doctrine is easily summed up in being pro "preemptive strikes." Sure you can add "as long as the evidence is there" like Palin did...but the problem with that is the evidence for the Iraq war was BOGUS and in a lot of cases FABRICATED while REAL evidence AGAINST the war was shuffled to the side or completely ignored.

My stance on preemptive war is that you don't do it unless you have ACTUAL evidence and that the people of the attacking country should at least be VAGUELY aware of how accurate the information is. Perhaps we should use another bush doctrine and color code the level of accuracy of the intelligence. Doing that, the evidence of Sadaam Hussein having Nuclear Weapons or other WMDs would be GREEN. The main evidence was given by an informant who had lied MANY times in the past! Yet this was used as evidence to spend BILLIONS on a war against someone who hadn't even remotely attacked us? Anyway, that's another subject.

Either way not having ANY clue of the summary Bush Doctrine just shows her complete lack of Foreign Policy experience. Then again, this is a woman who considers herself having visited Ireland. When, in fact, she only stopped in the airport to wait on another plane.

Just plain outright LIES come from the McCain campaign. At least Obama gives half truths and only exaggerates circumstance.

Obama is clearly the right choice this election season...I just can't understand how so many people won't vote for him because he's black or won't vote for McCain because Palin is a woman.

I just hope that people understand that the McCain campaign has CLEARLY stated that they are not running on the issues...but on personality. How can anyone get away with saying that? Again... HOW CAN ANYONE GET AWAY WITH SAYING SOMETHING SO UTTERLY STUPID??? I don't know if that was mentioned on other news networks but Faux News never mentioned it ONCE... I had to read it online. UGH! Presidential Campaigns should MAINLY be about the issues... sure personality and character are worth SOMETHING... but to say something as idiotic as "We aren't runnnig our campaign on the issues." just shows how stupid they think Americans are.

Okay i'm done.

First, I have nowhere else to post this comment Redwing and I can only write this response here for it to make sense to freedom's question so please take a chill pill if this upsets you.

Freedomofspeech, the truth is I am leaning more towards McCain than Obama but I am still open to changing my mind once the debates begin. The Oprah comment was just a joke. Maybe I should've put LOL so it would've been clear.

Because I try to be balanced and everybody on here is all anti mccain and worhsiping obama, of course I will only post pro mccain comments to give a different side.

On another forum I am on, where more people give opinions on both sides and are not blasted for going off topic, I do post pro-obama comments when someone posts pro-mccain ones and vice versa. Just like McCain today on the View, which I just saw on tv news. I would dare say he has no idea who Palin is. This was the 2nd time he said something about her that was a flat out lie. I feel like smacking him. If he keeps doing this kind of stuff, he won't win anyway. At least maybe the unsure voters like myself may not vote for him.

But another thing is also for sure, the pro Obama media is truly what has me on McCain's side more and more. If Barbara Walters would interview Obama and treat him the exact same way it would please me. Or any of the media (except Fox of course since they are against Obama).

RedWing said...

Larry I have taken my chill pill but am not sure why you think everyone on here is "all anti-McCain and worshipping Obama" when we clearly have a balance of commenters for both sides.

As for monica I think it's good idea for you to sign off. You get entirely too angry about politics, it seems. I think the "chill pill" could apply to you as well. :)

Back Tuesday!

hi everybody i am new here but wanted to say nice blog. i'm glad to see someone like larry who hasn't decided yet, as i haven't either.

unlike him though i am leaning towards obama as i feel the pick of sarah palin was a slap in the face to me. i am a hillary supporter and find it really sad that palin is making statements like "obama regrets not choosing hillary" when, even as a supporter, i think she went to far in her attacks on obama, a fellow democrat.

being a woman i've enjoyed all the scrutiny palin has received. it is a true test of how tough she can be. so far she isn't fairing well but maybe she and the campaign will stop whining about her being 'picked on' and suck it up like hillary did. you didnt see hillary crying 'sexist! sexist!" or "that's sexism! that's sexism!" I wear lipstick and don't take offense to the 'lipstick on a pig' thing that obama said. i actually do take offense to the suggestion that he was talking about sarah though.

i have really enjoyed reading everyones comments and am glad to find larry since everyone i know has already decided. if palin and mccain keeps whining i will vote for obama. if she can suck it up and stop telling lies and repeating talking points i may change. maybe larry and i can decide together.

nice meeting you all!

Hey Jessica. Nice to meet you. All of my friends have made up their mind as well.

Here is where I am: I like a lot of things about Obama, but there is something about him I can't put my finger on so I am doubting him. I can't stand Biden or McCain so they cancel each other out. Unlike you, I love Palin. Obviously this "love" is new and we still don't know a lot about her. Some people may say "well you are only voting based on popularity then", but it isn't the case with me because the things Obama is offering I agree with, just as equal as what McCain is. I absolutely think McCain is a better commander in chief than Obama. Especially with this new Russia conflict thing, so even though I was almost not worried about our security, these outside conflicts make me think more and more about our need for this again. I think initially Obama had me on the economy, but McCain's camp realized this and came up with some ok ideas as well. Basically the jibjab.com video of mccain/obama was hilarious and the part showing obama peace part and dancing with the animals is what concerns me about him. I am just not sure if he is tough enough.

So then some obama supporters want him to attack more, but he wants to play nice. Personally, and I know this probably only applies to me, but he would get my vote more if he was stronger on foreign policy and then also had his campaign stop attacking palin. Unfortunately I like her so much that I feel sorry for her and don't like the attacks. He isn't running against Palin. He can attack McCain all he wants, but like I said it would be better to attack our enemy in a stronger foregin policy. Not that we can't try talking first and war being the last option, but be stronger in those words. This would give me a better feel for having him my commander in chief.

A lot of how I feel is here: http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/11/beck.palin/index.html

First, as those of us that have actually paid attention during the Bush Administration know, there are actually FOUR Bush doctrines. Palin's asking Gibson to clarify what exactly he is asking her about was totally justified. His gaffe, not hers. But of course the left wingers wrongly criticize Palin; as usual their is argument not based in fact. Her description, albeit not especially fluid or eloquent, is indeed exactly what would be considered the most recent doctrine. You may be surprised to know that the Bush doctrine is not an official US gov policy or document. Second, as far as the criticism of Fox News- if you actually believe that most print media and networks aren't biased to the left, you aren't paying attention. The right may have Fox but the left has CBS, NBC, ABC, CNN.....

Just got back from Red America myself.. haven't really been on vacation. Just a couple of small trips.
Went to the county fair last weekend, and was actually encouraged. The country radio stations weren't quite so rabid.. four years ago, they were like FOX on steroids. Even the REpublican party booth had taken down the "God is on our side" banner.
My wife did manage to energize the Bush...er, excuse me, McCain base with her Obama bumper sticker.
Then we went to Spokane for a funeral this weekend. For those who aren't familiar with Washington State politics, we also have an urban/rural divide. Our last governor's election was decided by 127 votes after a hand recount paid for by the Democrats.
Of course the neo-chattering class of right-wing radio talking heads started screaming about election fraud... even though there wasn't the slightest evidence of it. THe REpublican Secretary of State certified the election, then the Republicans filed a suit in a rural county with a Republican leaning judge, who dismissed their case WITH PREJUDICE. (Meaning it was bullshit, and he thought it was a waste of the court's time)
Oh, the judge did find some evidence of voter fraud. Two felons who voted for the Republican candidate.
After the trial, the US attorney for our district was one of the one's fired by the Bush Administration for not prosecuting alleged voter fraud... after the state courts couldn't find any evidence of it.
Dino Rossi, the republican challenger in 2004 is running again, and the rural parts of the state are plastered with billboards urging voters "Don't let Seattle STEAL this election."
Apparently, just because an issue has been proven as bogus doesn't affect it's viability as a campaign point.

thanks for commenting larry! my only fear is for anyone who seems to be voting for someone because they feel sorry for her? that's kinda weird and is the only thing making me worried about palin. she needs more hillary power. she seemed so nervous that entire interview. i don't want someone nervous with their hand on the bang bang button. i guess i'm just used to hillary's comfort with the press.

i would also totally see your point on mccain with russia but. a big but here. we saw how well putting bush bak in office did. sometimes you just need to change your view on foreign policy when the world hates us. i don't think mccain will but not sure on palin yet. i am a little worried that people think living close to russia means you are an expert on russia. after reading obamas site i think his foreign policy of 'talk first shoot only if you have to' is more my cup of tea than 'bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" is.

i just dont know larry. i think in one of your comments said you would wait for the debates. i think i will too. will be interesting to see a leaning left and leaning right view on the fireworks. i think a good showing at the debate and her really not doing troopergate bad stuff in any way is key.

thanks for a place to spill the beans on the left and right! it looks about even to me.

grey fedora are you in washington state? can you get a picture of that billboard? my roommate says she wants to see!

oops didn't see your link there larry. you do know who glenn beck is right?

either way you should do like i do. i try to find all the worst stuff on all of them and then see who the bottom 2 are. after all the debunking of lies see who has the most worst things. my list shows mccain on the bottom with a jury still out on palin. i'd love to know the bad stuff on biden as all i can find is a college thing. obamas worst thing is people think he's muslim! at least to me.

sorry for double post!
jessica

Hey Jessica. Yes I know who Glenn Beck is. I have to read the republican's rebuttal to what the dem's say as no democrat will write such stuff. Even Rove went against McCain over the weekend on his ad attacks. And all of the media is on Obama's side. The commentary to me is accurate even though it leans on Palin's side.

I never said I was voting for Palin because I felt sorry for her. Sometimes I feel sorry for Obama as well. I don't think Obama is a muslim either.

It seems like you are similar to me in thinking except you are just slightly opposite of me. I thought Palin did a good job on the interviews considering everything but I did get the same feel you did on her lack of self confidence.

Yes I did say the debates will be the deciding factor for me. They still will be. Hopefully something can come out of them.

I understand what you are saying about views on foreign policy. I think the debates will help me understand Obama's ideas more.

Here is a link showing McCain is more bipartisan than Obama. http://washingtontimes.com/news/2008/sep/15/records-show-mccain-more-bipartisan/

as far as Biden goes, I don't think there is much dirt on him really. He got caught plagiarizing in college but got out of it. His wife was killed in a horrible accident that he lied about saying it was a drunk driver, but it was not. He later apologized. He says he doesn't meet with lobbyist, but his own son was one, so it is hard to tell on that one.

As far as Obama he has had a few things come up, but nothing major. You see, none of these things listed on Biden, nor the behaviors of Palin/McCain would prevent me from voting for either. We are not perfect people. It does come down to the lesser of the 2 evils I suppose, but I am not sure that would be how I vote. Maybe it will be. Biden/Palin things they have done SO FAR (or proven I should say) are about equal since I don't care about the hoopla going on over Palin. Obama is the lesser of 2 evils compared to McCain.

Maybe Obama can change my mind on foreign policy. I'll give him a chance. One other thing to note, McCain has been quoted saying he doesn't use email and the Obama campaign has come out with ads about that. I read the reason was because he could not feel comfortable with his arms at a computer because of his POW injuries. I hope Obama comes out and apologizes for that ad. It would show he was a good person. I don't think they realized the reason.

yikes larry you sound like a karl rove apologist. you want an apology on even the stupidest things with 'fake outrage.' this has to stop. i work with handicap children every weekend and they have all sorts of neat devices so they can use a computer. isnt mccain rich? he could have someone read the stuff for him or get a split keyboard to keep by his side. lots of ways around it yet they scream bloody murder because obama told the truth about mccain not knowing email? see this is one of the reelly scary things about mccain. i dont think its a good thing that a man who may run this country doesnt know email and claims its because hes handicap. i cry bullcrap! i see 7-12 yr olds with worse handicaps do quite well on a computer. one of the children was born with no arms and uses speech regognition software to send messages.

this is actually another nail in mccains coffin for me. fake outrage is not a pretty thing and is happening way too much. someone on here said mccain.palin are running on personality and not the issues. i believe you now.

i think obama will be much more bi partisan than mccain. mccain was in senate for many many years before the republicans went crazy with power. obama hasn't had the chance yet. well see though.

one last thing then its bedtime. i think its funny the media is getting such a bum wrap by doing their job. obama was vetted with a fine toothed comb by the entire country and media using thousands upon thousands of interviews and press conferences and even sneaky attacks that were fended off without obama crying about it. yet all the people can say here is he might be a muslim or promote a socialist agenda with no actual proof of that being so. again on palin. prove to me you can fight like hillary instead of whining about being treated unfairly. i only saw hillary do that once but see palin doing it through her campaign aids all the time. be tough sarah! girl power not cry power!

campaign on issues not personality. please?

Hey jessica, what state are you in?

David Patterson is the governor of New York and is the first legally blind governor of any state. So how do you feel about that?

Also, it was an article I read on McCain. I am not sure if the campgaign has said anything regarding the statement. Sorry, but that is my opinion on the matter and I won't change it. You can have valid reasons for worrying whether our president can use his hands/arms in certain times, but considering the job, do you really think they sit down and write emails all day? McCain said he spoke his words and they were typed by his wife when he needed to. I think certain things are out of line and both parties are doing a horrific job on their ads. They need to stop. Colin Powell hasn't chosen who he is voting for yet but said it best by saying we need to get down to the issues and stop this.

I can't believe email would prevent you from voting for him. You seem like you've really already made up your mind anyway, and as you know from your own experience once a person has made up their mind there "aint no changing it"..

I'll post here in Novemeber to say who I ended up voting for. Good luck to everyone for whomever you choose.

Well once again I have read all the comments posted and find them all interesting points of view. Still of course there is still people who no matter what will buy into the petty. I wish to convey to you the urgency of the matter at hand. Lets all vote with some common sense and respect for our fellow men and women. Wth Foreign policy gone wrong and a war that is being financed by China for American I can see why most would like very much not to talk about the issues at hand. I would like to have a President who walks softly, but carries a big stick. Whose economic policies addresses the corporate, and banking fraud that has run amok. I would like to see foreign policies that are fair both to America and the country in question. Policies that won't create such massive trade dificits that we see today. A man or woman that understands that catering to other countries without enforcing the laws that are currently on the books will never create a solution, just more issues. Someone who belives in the future of this country and will act on reconstruction of America's infrastructure. America's Infrastructure: Wow did we forget how weak we have become. Educations is lagging, roads and bridges are falling apart, and financially America is crippled. America's Biggest Threat. WE THE PEOPLE. Remember the Term Survival of the Fittest. Well Welcome to the newest way of life. America its time for a reality check. No more can't wait got to have it now. The Credit market is drying up since they have belked America out of its real worth, now most are worthless. The rich and those bent on being rich at all cost have almost killed America off. Now come the question. Is America ready for equilibrium again. When thinking about this question remember "survival of the fittest"

I am pissed! For the first time in my history of voting, I am not voting for a President. None of the candidates comes close to making me feel comfortable as being our Head of State. Hilary was the only one who had experience in Washington and should have been the other choice. I am pissed! McCain/Palin are a JOKE! Obama/Biden? I do not really feel a connection. Hilary? I know all of her baggage and I know that the Clinton years were the best years of my life! Despite all of the hoopla her hubby caused during those years, you cannot deny that we all made money and life was GREAT! I still believe Hilary should have been our choice and McCain putting Palin on his ticket hoping to woo us Hilary supporters is a JOKE! He could not even find a qualified Republican woman--what about Condaleeza Rice? McCain is a FOOL! I am not fooled and I will not vote for a Prez this year. Scared? YES! Russia, China, Venezuela, and North Korea are lying in bed together when it comes to their views of us U.S. citizens because of our IDIOT President Bush. He has led this country so far down the path of destruction that we do not even need to worry about terrorist. He has terrorized us to death. He has stuped our economy into the ground, FannieMae and FreddieMac are in deep doodoo, and the middle class has virtually disappeared. Bush is an IDIOT, a BOOB--need I say more. So for all you Republicans out there---get it through your skulls--McCain is a Bush clone in disquise! You are being brain washed! WAKE UP AMERICA!

oh silly larry it's not email that is making me lean to obama. its the fact that he doesnt know how to use it. make no mistake that what he said about his pow injury being the reason he cant use email is a lie. a big lie! the only reason i havent decided to vote for obama yet is because palin may convince me in the debates that she knows what she is doing. but if mccain keeps outright lying about the stupidest stuff then there may be nothing she can do.

i am in ohio! where are you?

George W. Palin-------------------

Sarah Palin may not know the Bush Doctrine, but she sure sounds like Bush.

By John Dickerson
Posted Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, at 1:57 PM ET

Sarah Palin and George W. Bush
Sarah Palin's ignorance about the specifics of "the Bush Doctrine" in her first big network interview does not worry me. What's worrisome is her familiarity—and comfort—with Bush's general worldview.
In the pop-quiz question about the Bush Doctrine even Charlie Gibson—who knew, presumably, what was coming—didn't define it correctly. The Bush Doctrine is about preventive military action (Gibson mistakenly used the word pre-emptive), but in its first iteration, it defined those who harbor terrorists as no different from the terrorists themselves. Later, it came to include the spread of democracy in the Middle East. Given the president's selective application of his doctrine and its subsequent revisions, it's quite possible that not even Bush knows what the Bush Doctrine is.
So it's a little murky. But while Palin may not know what the Bush Doctrine is, she seemed, in her answers, to have adopted his approach to world affairs. As Bush did, Palin comes to national office with little knowledge about foreign affairs. She hasn't traveled much, and the claims the campaign have made for her foreign-policy experience are evaporating. For example, aides have asserted that because Alaska neighbors Russia, Palin understands Russia. Yet the campaign has never been able to back up this assertion. When Palin was asked about Russia, her strongest response seemed to be that she can see Russia. "They're our next-door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska," she told Gibson.
This is a travel tip, not an argument for foreign-policy expertise. Because a person can see the moon does not make them qualified to be an astronaut.
Palin also seems to share Bush's lack of curiosity. Much of the interview felt like the forceful recitation of talking points she'd only just learned. There was very little evidence of original thought. (Obama has the opposite problem: He has thoughts, but is too calculating to share them.) Some Republicans have compared Palin's directness to Reagan, but that analogy doesn't hold—he'd been working over his ideas for decades before he was on the national ticket.
Finally, like Bush, Palin does not appear to let her unfamiliarity with the material hold her back. She was at pains throughout the interview to demonstrate her decisiveness. This makes political sense: What better way to reassure people about her ability as a leader than to look decisive?
But by repeatedly asserting that she will "not blink," Palin was eerily Bush-like. She offered a black-and-white worldview of bold decisions made quickly and changed reluctantly for fear of showing weakness. Sound familiar?
As a political matter, Republicans will think the Bush Doctrine question was unfair. Since doctrine is like the word paradigm—not often used in daily life—those who make issue of this will be mocked as pasty elites. Democrats, meanwhile, will see Palin's fumble of the question as the perfect encapsulation of their every worry about her.
I'm not sure much changed politically after the first round of the three-part interview. But if the new message of the McCain campaign is that his ticket is a change from George W. Bush, Palin didn't make the case.

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....
* If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're 'exotic, different.'
* But if you grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, you're a quintessential American story.
* If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.
* But if you name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.
* If you graduate from Harvard law School you are unstable.
* But if you attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're 'well grounded'.
* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.
* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.
* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.
* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.
* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.
* If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.
* If your wife is a Harvard graduate laywer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.
* If you're husband is nicknamed 'First Dude', with at least one DuI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.
OK, much clearer now.

Okay wow. That's a nice list anonymous. I'm going to verify that it's all true, but if it is, it's certainly a list of lists to compare experience. Kudos! Keep up the good work!

Holy crap larry nice find. I had never heard of David Patterson till you brought him up. After reading up on him I think it's fantastic that he was sworn in. How the voters react, remains to be seen.

Here is a little about him courtesy of Wikipedia:

Stem cell research

Paterson is a proponent of embryonic stem cell research. He led Spitzer's successful 2007 legislative effort to approve a bond issue which will provide at least $1 billion toward stem cell research. Spitzer and Paterson touted the measure partly for its economic development benefits, following California's $3 billion effort, which in turn had been prompted by the U.S. federal government halting funding for such research. The New York state legislature had opposed funding the research, and it remains controversial.

Voting rights

In September 2007, Paterson weighed in on a proposal before the New York City Council to extend voting rights to noncitizens. He told a crowd gathered at the West Indian American Day Carnival Parade that he believed noncitizens should be granted voting rights. He stressed he was asking for a change in policy, rather than a new law, citing that although 22 states and territories between 1776 and 1920 allowed the practice, none do now. Governor Spitzer issued a statement that he did not agree with Paterson's position, and claimed he was unaware Paterson would be speaking on the matter. Paterson had tried to introduce legislation granting voting rights to noncitizens as a State Senator fifteen years earlier.

Lawsuit over bias allegation

In February 2008, a U.S. District Judge denied a motion to dismiss a racial discrimination lawsuit naming Paterson. A former staff photographer, a Caucasian male, claimed that he was the victim of discrimination in 2005 when Paterson's office replaced him with a black photographer. According to the New York Post, Paterson's chief of staff "denied the claim... Paterson, in his deposition, countered that the decision... was simple politics - [the photographer] was a holdover from former Minority Leader Marty Connor, who was ousted by Paterson in 2003."

There is plenty more on Wikipedia regarding Same Sex Marriage amongst other topics. You can find it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Paterson

that's right Redwing. What he stands for has nothing to do with him being legally blind.

RedWing said...

Hmm...okay. What's your point? I've never stated that John McCain's handicap is a reason not to vote for him? Have I?

Anonymous said...

I wasn't referring to you.

no Mr. Redwing i think dear ole larry is talking to me with that! apparently he thinks that even though i work with handicap children, some of them blind, that i am somehow not voting for mccain because he has a handicap. it is so far from the truth i wasn't even going to respond until you thought his attack was directed at you. sorry for that!

sarah palin has had her email hacked because of a bad password. i'm not computer genius but i have a number and symbol in my password! i'm sorry but i cannot trust someone doing something that dumb to run our country should the statistical likelihood of mccain dying within 4 years occur.

i have now voted on the side bar thingy in favor of obama and it will remain that way unless palin does something extraordinary on debate day.

thanks to larry and everyone else! you have influenced my opinion more than you think!

well Jessica. Isn't it funny that you hoped I wasn't voting for McCain simply because Palin was popular yet you are voting for Obama thanks to me and my opinion?

http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/is_mccain_unable_to_use_a_computer.html

and it seems you should do more research instead of assuming Palin's password was easy.

And I wasn't trying to start a fight/debate with you. I just asked your opinion over a blind governer running a state, knowing he probably can't use email either. Maybe in this case you are ok because in your opinion that truly is a disability, whereas McCain's is not. You can see from that link that McCain could've used/learned email if he wanted to but because of the hassle he chose not to. You decided not to respond about the governor question. Maybe because that governor is a democrat I don't know. If you can be sarcastic in your comments, then so can I, even though mine was in jest. Apparently you are looking for reasons NOT to vote for McCain and I am looking for reasons NOT to vote for Obama, so maybe we have both made up our minds really and there is no use for me to even be on this blog anymore. Sorry if you took offense.

These elections are so
important. VOTE. I know we all have our opinions and that is great, it's
what democracy is all about, the energy of free thinking...and thru this e wave
of energy I pass on to you this article.
Eve Ensler, the American playwright, performer, feminist and activist best
known for "The Vagina Monologues", wrote the following about Sarah
Palin:
Drill, Drill, Drill
I am having Sarah Palin nightmares. I dreamt last night that she was a member
of a club where they rode snowmobiles and wore the claws of drowned and starved
polar bears around their necks. I have a particular thing for Polar Bears. Maybe
it's their snowy whiteness or their bigness or the fact that they live in
the arctic or that I have never seen one in person or touched one. Maybe it is
the fact that they live so comfortably on ice. Whatever it is, I need the polar
bears.
I don't like raging at women. I am a Feminist and have spent my life trying
to build community, help empower women and stop violence against them. It is
hard to write about Sarah Palin. This is why the Sarah Palin choice was all the
more insidious and cynical. The people who made this choice count on the
goodness and solidarity of Feminists.
But everything Sarah Palin believes in and practices is antithetical to
Feminism which for me is part of one story -- connected to saving the earth,
ending racism, empowering women, giving young girls options, opening our minds,
deepening tolerance, and ending violence and war.
I believe that the McCain/Palin ticket is one of the most dangerous choices of
my lifetime, and should this country chose those candidates the fall-out may be
so great, the destruction so vast in so many areas that America may never
recover. But what is equally disturbing is the impact that duo would have on the
rest of the world. Unfortunately, this is not a joke. In my lifetime I have seen
the clownish, the inept, the bizarre be elected to the presidency with
regularity.
Sarah Palin does not believe in evolution. I take this as a metaphor. In her
world and the world of Fundamentalists nothing changes or gets better or
evolves. She does not believe in global warming. The melting of the arctic, the
storms that are destroying our cities, the pollution and rise of cancers, are
all part of God's plan. She is fighting to take the polar bears off the
endangered species list. The earth, in Palin's view, is here to be taken and
plundered. The wolves and the bears are here to be shot and plundered. The oil
is here to be taken and plundered. Iraq is here to be taken and plundered. As
she said herself of the Iraqi war, "It was a task from God."
Sarah Palin does not believe in abortion. She does not believe women who are
raped and incested and ripped open against their will should have a right to
determine whether they have their rapist's baby or not.
She obviously does not believe in sex education or birth control. I imagine her
daughter was practicing abstinence and we know how many babies that makes.
Sarah Palin does not much believe in thinking. From what I gather she has tried
to ban books from the library, has a tendency to dispense with people who think
independently. She cannot tolerate an environment of ambiguity and difference.
This is a woman who could and might very well be the next president of the
United States. She would govern one of the most diverse populations on the
earth.
Sarah believes in guns. She has her own custom Austrian hunting rifle. She has
been known to kill 40 caribou at a clip. She has shot hundreds of wolves from
the air.
Sarah believes in God. That is of course her right, her private right. But when
God and Guns come together in the public sector, when war is declared in
God's name, when the rights of women are denied in his name, that is the end
of separation of church and state and the undoing of everything America has ever
tried to be.
I write to my sisters. I write because I believe we hold this election in our
hands. This vote is a vote that will determine the future not just of the U.S.,
but of the planet. It will determine whether we create policies to save the
earth or make it forever uninhabitable for humans. It will determine whether we
move towards dialogue and diplomacy in the world or whether we escalate violence
through
invasion, undermining and attack. It will determine whether we go for oil,
strip mining, coal burning or invest our money in alternatives that will free us
from dependency and destruction. It will determine if money gets spent on
education and healthcare or whether we build more and more methods of killing.
It will determine whether America is a free open tolerant society or a closed
place of fear, fundamentalism and aggression.
If the Polar Bears don't move you to go and do everything in your power to
get Obama elected then consider the chant that filled the hall after Palin spoke
at the RNC, "Drill Drill Drill." I think of teeth when I think of
drills. I think of rape. I think of destruction. I think of domination. I think
of military exercises that force mindless repetition, emptying the brain of
analysis, doubt, ambiguity or dissent. I think of pain.
Do we want a future of drilling? More holes in the ozone, in the floor of the
sea, more holes in our thinking, in the trust between nations and peoples, more
holes in the fabric of this precious thing we call life?

funny how we had this same debate here in this thread and Obama's OWN VP said exactly what I said. Wonder how Jessica feels about this? I forgot, she's still mad.
