Arlen Specter is now a Democrat.
I always knew he was one of the VERY few liberal Republicans...but to totally defect to save his political career isn't doing him any favors. However, it does make the Democrats look good and we now have 60 votes. Universal Health Care here we come! Now all of Obama's ideas should be implemented.
Now we just gotta sit back and hope they work. :)

Not so fast!
I meant to post earlier, but recent events have borne out what I would have said.
Arlen Specter is not an automatic vote for the Democrats. He voted with the Republicans about 65% of the time, while this isn't good enough for the ideological purists, it also means he only voted with the Democrats 35% of the time. He shows every indication of continuing in this manner. He will caucus with the "blue dogs."
Hopefully, as a Democrat, Specter will be more responsive to his new constituency, and moderate some of his positions.
I for one am hoping he will be able to broker a compromise on Health care and EFCA that will bring some blue dogs and moderate Republicans into the fold.
