Sarah Palin's Fashion Expose'

Well, SueBeeHonee, another author on this blog posted earlier about Cindy McCain's $300,000 complete outfit worn at the Republican National Convention. The argument got heated and I believe was left with everyone saying it didn't matter because it was Cindy McCain's money and she should be able to do with it whatever she wants. While I thought it was too over the top to pretend you "know people are hurting" the conservative leaning commenter's made their pitch and I will let it stand. But that brings us to what this entry is really about. Sarah Palin's Wardrobe.

List of Charges:

The Republican National Committee has spent over $150,000 to outfit Sarah Palin on the campaign trail. These charges are as follows:

Macy's in Minneapolis - 3 pays totalling..$28,343.13
Neimen Marcus in Minneapolis - ............$75,062.63
Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis & NY - ......$49,425.74
RNC for Hair & Makeup Expenses - .........$4,716.49
Barney's in NY - .....................................$789.72
Bloomingdale's in NY - ...........................$5,102.71

and last but not least:

Pacifier & Steiniauf & Stroller Inc (top notch baby stores) - $295 to outfit baby Palin

The Point:

I know some of you will be asking, what's the point of going through this type of scenario again? The answer is simple, this is not the wife of a Presidential candidate spending her own money on an outfit. This is the McCain campaign & the RNC spending donation money on incredibly expensive clothing for Sarah Palin (and likely McCain, as well). How can you advocate for the poor when you spend money on clothing like that? How can you truly "know the people are hurting," when you so blatantly spend top dollar on unnecessary fashion?

The McCain campaign has answered this charge by saying they will be giving the clothing to charity once the campaign is over. Does anyone else find this to be a bogus claim? So what if they give it to charity, I doubt it will ever get the value it originally cost.

Shouldn't Republicans be upset by this? Shouldn't they be saying the McCain campaign has more important things to spend donated money on? Shouldn't they be saying why are you spending money on Sarah Palin's baby when she is not part of the campaign? Shouldn't they be asking any of those things?

uh really? you know being a shopper myself i simply can't see how someone could or even would spend that much money on clothes. if i were to get the best stuff around to make me look fabulous i would have a hard time spending more than $10,000. Ohhh the things I could do for $150k...but ugh, the shame I would feel for doing it.

Redwing, dude...where is my article on that woman in minnesota spouting the "anti-american" witch hunt she wants in Congress? Here's a hint, her name is Michelle Bachmann.

Get on it!

Thanks for the post. This is one of the reasons I will be voting for Obama-Biden this year. Republicans are supposed to be fiscally responsible. This is hardly what I call fiscal responsibility. Republicans are also supposed to be against welfare, yet all they've done is give corporate welfare to the banking industry over the last month. If Republicans aren't going to practice what they preach, I'm not preaching for them anymore. My core beliefs have been attacked and killed in this Republican party. So this time I will at least give the other guy a chance and give them my vote.

freedomofspeech, I'm not going to do an article on that. While I find it hilarious that Tinklynberg received $650,000 after the interview, the district is far too republican to go his way. I sent $15 to his campaign today anyway and so should everyone else. Maybe it won't be money wasted.

Anyone wanting to know about it can go here.

Uh...careful anonymous...I'm all for freedom of speech (the idea, not the commentor) so be glad you put whatever word you were going to use as a hidden term. Just because I am a 1st ammendment proponent doesn't mean I'll allow filthy language. Keep it clean and you'll be fine.

Oh and to answer your question... I'm not a journalist with a newspaper. It is not my job to be objective. It is my job to get Barack Obama elected as our next POTUS.

I am a Republican and yet I still sort out the hoopla and junk fed to me from both sides. I was for McCain up until he posted Palin into the VP position. I had to really see it through though before I came to conclusion that I just could not see her as President. She feeds the ignorant and uneducated crowds with hatred, lies, and exagerated untruths to get votes and that made me sick. I am a very proud Black American and I regret I ever voted for Bush a second time, but I did and I am paying for that decision now. I still have some skepticism about Obama, but he is certainly looking more favorable to me than McCain now. If my fellow Republicans would get their heads out of the sand and really look at Palin for what she is and what she stands for really, then maybe they would see that not only is she not qualified to be our VP, but our President either. I had to say to myself, "Is she qualified to be President of the United States if McCain were to die?" My answer, after much deliberation and sorting through all the facts and red tape, is NO! Therefore, I am going to consider the other candidates and leave McCain/Palin in the dust. Oh yeah, I almost forgot...Antisocialism and Anonymous almost seem one and the same with their rants. It seems they criticize Redwing for swinging too far to the left when, in fact, they swing too far to the right. You can't criticize that Redwing does this and allow yourself to do it too. Anonymous your infantile style of writing is not impressive and you spout a lot of hatred and unfounded inuendos that are offensive. I may be Republican, but I would never condone your offensive behavior towards anyone whether they be Democrat, Republican, or Independent.

To the author:

While you spout facts and figures in leu of actual substance, the Republican party is quietly coming back in this race. McCain will easily win this year and leave all you liberals thinking the same way you thought after Kerry lost in 2004. I for one look forward to laughing in your face.

So next time why don't you make an intelligent post that contains substance that people actually care about. As it stands this crap means nothing and it seems you've shot your wad weeks ago and cannot recover.

"No Republican would spend that much money on clothes."

We sent the mink coat back, and bought her a nice Republican cloth coat..... but we're keeping the dog.

Von:

My wife just talked to one of her Republican leaning friends. She has already sent in her ballot, voting for Obama. Her reasoning: "If Obama gets elected, he will just be assassinated, if McCain gets elected, he will probably die before he finishes his term. So you are voting for vice presidents this year."

Anonymous, I am a WOMAN not a man. And in what part of my post did I say I was definately voting for Obama. I said I was considering other candidates. Just because I am Black does not make me a racist nor would my voting for a Black person make me racist. In your skewed little mind I guess you think that all black people are going to vote for Obama because he is Black. GROW UP! Maybe in some sectors that may be a possiblity, but those of us who have had more than a college education, we tend to think with our minds and not with the color of our skin. Since you have quite obviously let me know that you are White, then let me ask you, "Do you only vote for White people because they are White or do you vote for who you feel best represents your values and beliefs despite the color of their skin?" There are other candidates to vote for besides Obama. You would be ignorant to believe I only vote for Black people because they are Black. I am way beyond playing the race card and having the mentality that I am owed money for what slave owners did to my ancestors and I resent the fact that you still think that way. Despite the jokes behind your closed doors, all Black Americans are not alike. It should be obvious in the fact that I am refering to myself as a Black American and not an African American. I am an American and I am Black thus a Black American. I was born in Detroit, Michigan and not in Africa.

Anonymous please be respectful when commenting here. I grow weary of your 2 year old attitude. Are you even old enough to vote? I hope not.

Von, I do need to take up for antisocialism because he is certainly nothing like anonymous and is a personal friend of mine. He's a smart man who's been brainwashed by a pretty face. Otherwise, I know he'd never vote for a woman like Sarah Palin. He's extremely smart and just doesn't realize Obama is just repealing Bush's tax cuts and putting things back to the way they were under Clinton. We gave Bush's cuts 8 years to work, they didn't. Putting them back isn't the worst idea in the world and is certainly not socialism. Even McCain was against the Bush tax cuts before he was for them. I have 3 other republican friends who are just not voting for President this year. The idea of Palin as the President is scary to them so they are just voting for local politics. Who knows if this is true or not, but it gives me hope that not all right wingers are brainwashed by Fixed News.

While I hope Obama is not "assassinated" as the friend of Grey Fedora said, I do feel the VP pick is extremely important this year, much more than past elections.

Speaking of FiXed News...I think you'll enjoy my next entry. I wrote it up last night and will finish it up at lunch.

WOW! anonymous, its people like you that encourage the rest of us to support Obama. At least we stand behind what we say! We certainly don't HIDE our beliefs.
but your spewing of hatred and vile derogatory accusations only lends to the fact, like McCain, you have NO actual decent policy ideas to cling to so you resort to name calling! ahahah
on the post itself...
the fact the RNC SPENT that much money on clothing definitely MATTERS!
had the DNC done this the right wing would be all over it calling it an example of JUDGEMENT, PRIORITIES & DISCONNECT from the people.
They had CHOICES of where to shop and yet they chose the MOST ELITE shops..hmmmm *elite*....kinda hard for you name callers to swallow ur own word eh??* ahahha
its ok...You can 'cling' to your guns and religion instead, you will need to..its gonna take a whole lotta praying for McCain to win this one!!!

I thought you guys might enjoy this update on what McCain & Palin said about the "shopping spree."

"Palin, who is John McCain's vice presidential running mate, said the clothes were not worth $150,000 and were bought for the Republican National Convention.

Most of the clothes have never left the campaign plane, she told the newspaper.

"It's kind of painful to be criticized for something when all the facts are not out there and are not reported," Palin said.

"That whole thing is just, bad!" she said. "Oh, if people only knew how frugal we are."

News of the purchases of designer clothes, largely from upscale Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, contrasts with the image Palin has crafted as a typical "hockey mom."

McCain was asked several questions on Thursday about the shopping spree — and he answered each one more or less the same way: Palin needed clothes and they'll be donated to charity.

"She needed clothes at the time. They'll be donated at end of this campaign. They'll be donated to charity," McCain told reporters on his campaign bus between Florida rallies.

Asked for details on how they'll be donated, McCain said, "It works by her getting some clothes when she was made the nominee of the party and it will be donated back to charity."

Asked if he was surprised at the amount spent, McCain said, "It works that the clothes will be donated to charity. Nothing surprises me."

McCain offered no further comment, except to say that the Republican National Committee doesn't buy his clothes."
